What is a ceramic coating?
If you want the paint and every surface of your vehicle to look like new for as long as possible, then a ceramic sealant is just what you need. With a ceramic coating, your vehicle will always shine in new splendor.
What is included in a ceramic sealant?
In terms of physics and chemistry, silicon in a ceramic coating provides a molecular bond with the paint and thus an extremely hard layer. Thus, the chemical element contained in a ceramic coating is silicon dioxide on a polymer base. This is a substance composed of numerous molecules, each of which has the same monomers.
How does a ceramic coating work?
Ceramic coating and paint form a firm bond on a molecular basis. The new surface is thus resistant to abrasion. Before the sealant hardens completely, you have to wait about two to three days. A ceramic sealant is applied in several layers. Each additional coating has the advantage that the protection time is significantly longer. This in turn has a positive effect on the various surfaces of the vehicle.
Can the paint be additionally hardened by ceramic coating?
When it comes to protecting the vehicle, advertising gets very creative. Thus, one reads again and again about different degrees of hardness with which different protective measures for the paint of a vehicle are compared. However, there is no standardized method for measuring this hardness, so it is difficult to make an objective comparison between several products using this information. In principle, however, a ceramic sealant can never be harder than the coated paint underneath. If the paint hardness of the vehicle is therefore rated as "8H", then even a sealant with a hardness rating of "9H" will not be able to make the paint any harder than it already is.
Which substrates are suitable for ceramic coating?
Ceramic coating is a surface coating that is suitable for very many materials. Only materials such as PVC or polyethylene are excluded from this. The coating forms a bond with the material underneath. The result is a transparent and high-gloss protective film.
Can a ceramic coating prevent scratches on the paint?
A ceramic coating is quite capable of keeping out fine scratches. The protective layer can also withstand many a small stone chip. However, a ceramic sealant does not offer absolute scratch resistance, because it is simply too thin for that. A stone chip at highway speed will therefore leave visible marks on the paint despite the ceramic coating.
Is cleaning still necessary after ceramic coating?
Of course, it would be wonderful to simply apply a layer to the paint and never have to wash the car again from then on. Unfortunately, this remains a utopia, because a ceramic coating reduces the cleaning effort, but of course cannot prevent the car from getting dirty over time. Thus, despite ceramic coating, there is no getting around a regular car wash, but the maintenance effort is significantly lower, because finally the dirt can no longer adhere to the vehicle so well. The cleaning time is therefore noticeably reduced.
To what extent can ceramic sealing help against pollution?
Unlike polishes, a ceramic sealant is abrasion-resistant. This means that it can offer very special protection against all kinds of dirt. These contaminants include brake dust, mud, road salt or even insect remains. With a ceramic-sealed vehicle, it is usually sufficient to clean the car with a high-pressure cleaner or clean water to remove dirt.
How expensive is ceramic coating ?
It is not easy to give a blanket answer to the question of the cost of ceramic coating, because the cost of ceramic sealing depends on various factors. These include the structure and condition as well as the size of the car, any additional services desired and the number of layers to be applied. What influence does ceramic sealing have on the intensity or color depth?
Depending on the layer thickness applied, a ceramic sealant can give the paint a significant boost in terms of gloss and intensity. This allows the color of the paint to be really showcased. Colors gain in volume and intensity and thus appear radiant and stronger.
